I find a great comfort in tending to beautiful green plants. It brings me an immense sense of peace. I know my husband thinks I am crazy with my obsession with growing things. My repotting projects always seem to take over the kitchen table.
Recently we had to move out of our house and into an apartment, which means I had to abandon my hobby of gardening. Or so I thought. With a little bit of brainstorming, potting soil, and persistence, I have managed to have a few plants on our back patio (and some are still on my kitchen table).
I am still working to expand my little garden. Right now I have a rose plant from my garden at our old house, my lemon balm from our old house, pachysandra my parents gave me as a gift that I saved from our old house, some spinach I planted, oregano from seed, and cuttings of mint, basil, rosemary and thyme. I also have strawberries growing! so far I have harvested about 5 strawberries from my plants.
I am trying to grow lavender from seed. So far I have had bad luck with storms knocking my pots over and killing the seedlings. I replanted, however and I will share my progress!
One thing I am very interested in is making containers to grow my plants in from unusual objects. I have a few cheap and easy ideas I am working on that I hope can help other nature lovers like me find their green thumb without having a traditional garden. This will be just another way to find the beauty in a small and unlikely place. Come back soon for a how to on making your own container garden from things you already have!
