Today I want to talk about negative thoughts that plague our minds, and make our day to day lives a lot less pleasant than they should be.
- How many times a day do you dwell on something you could have, or should have done differently?
- How often do you get that pang of worry in your stomach, over things that are out of your control?
- Do you take your bad day at work home with you?
- Do you bring down the ones you love with your constant negativity?
One year ago my answers to these questions would have proven that I was allowing my stress and negativity to rule my life. I felt like my life was out of control and that nothing would ever go right. In truth, my negativity was out of control, and had been for many years.
I know my constant negativity had to have had an impact on my husband’s depression. This was the main factor that prompted me to make a change.
I finally had what I like to call a light bulb moment.
Life is too short to be miserable all the time. You cannot control what happens to you,but you can control how you react. You can choose to be positive.
I started making changes, starting with not bringing home my bad days at work. I had to stop jumping to the most negative conclusions all the time. I always assumed the worst. I had to learn to let go of my mistakes and move on.
Dwelling, worrying, and stressing over things you cannot control only hurts yourself, it doesn’t change anything.
It took a really long time, but I can truthfully say, for the first time in years that I do not automatically think of the negative in every situation. It was worth it to make that change. I am happier, my relationship with my husband is better than ever. I have found a passion to pursue that I hope to make into a career one day.
When you are always negative you are slamming the door to opportunity in your own face. Let go of the negativity, and doors will open!
Take the time to find the positives in your day, focus on the things that make you happy!
I hope you all finish the week with a positive attitude!
